Captain's Report

When I became captain at the start of the season I didn’t think that by the end of the season I would be here now talking about promotion to the top division. My aim was to try and continue the good work and keep the club moving forward.

This season has been a real team effort and I feel that this was the key to such a successful season. By this I mean that when needed there has been a special effort / contribution made by a different member of the side. A game where this comes to mind was Alnwick at home with a crucial partnership of 44 between M Bell 27* and Andy Morgan 11* which saw us home in a game we looked like throwing away. Out of the 14 games we managed to get finished we bowled 10 teams out due to this we had five bowlers taking 15+ wickets each and they deserve special mention.

Apart from a couple of players who have work commitments the team this year has been settled and I feel that this is also a factor in the success and again I would like to thank everyone for their commitment during the season.

The batting line up looked strong all season and apart from one blip against Backworth we were only bowled out 3 times in the whole league campaign due to our improved bowling and fielding we found ourselves chasing quite low totals but when required we showed that we could hit 200+.

The main run scorer for the 1 st XI was Lloyd Anderson who scored 525 league runs at an average of 47.73. He was well supported by Carl Bevan, Stuart Taylor, Andy Morgan, Matt Darwood and Jim Ealey.

This year I have had a bit of an insight into what goes on behind the scenes and what it takes to keep the club going and on behalf of the first team I would like to give a special mention to and thank Andy Morgan and Geoff Appleby for all their efforts and work throughout the whole year.

From a personal point of view I would like to thank everyone connected with Ponteland Cricket Club for all their help in making the job as captain such an easy one, and hope next year we continue the success and development
