Ponteland first played the M.C.C as the central match in a week of fixtures celebrating Ponteland's centenary in 1980. A bi annual fixture was then set up with them that ran until 1986. A fixture was arranged for 1988 that was cancelled due to rain before the M.C.C declined the invitation to continue due to fixture congestion.
The fixture resulted in several international cricketers gracing Ponteland's ground, with Desmond Haynes, Colin Milburn (1982), Suru Nayak and Qasim Omar (1984) with Qasim Omar and Richie Richardson in 1986. Haynes and Omar (1986) scored centuries.
Ponteland won in 1982 and 1986 with the other two fixtures drawn.
