Ashley made his debut aged 14 in a rain affected match against Genetics in 2006. Made his 2XI debut in 2007 at Whickham the following season while still an Under 15 and was a regular during 2008.

His first five wicket innings came in the second game of the 2009 season with 6-16 against Alnwick, including 3 wickets in an over. Made his 1XI debut in a cup match against Tynedale in June and his first league appearance against Whickham at home in the same season. Captained the Midweek side against Percy Main in the cup in 2011 aged 19.

Became joint Captain of the Eagles for the 2012 season with Dave Waters, leading the side to the Division III title.

2018 was Ashley's breakthrough year in the 1XI, taking 38 wickets, winning the Bowling Trophy and the Lawson Rosebowl for his 6 wickets in the match against Annfield Plain. He also became the first 3 time winner of the Roy Storer Fielding Trophy with 4 catches in the Midweek League against Humshaugh.

After a slow start to the 2021 season took 6-15 against Bedlington including the first hat-trick in the 1XI since 2008 (it was only 5 balls before another was recorded by Ben O'Brien as six wickets fell in 8 balls)
