John Gardner

John debuted as a junior in 1985 and has played for the club since (bar 1994 with Corbridge). 12 catches in 2000 made him the league's leading outfielder.

In 2005 scored the only Ponteland century in the President's XI fixture. Scored a 21 ball fifty in the win over Ashington at Home in 2006 an innings containing 6 sixes, then two weeks later scored fifties off 23 and 24 balls against Lanchester and Leadgate. Took 5-5 off 10.2 overs when Greenside were dismissed for a league record low of 14 in 2007, the 4th most economic spell for the 1XI.

After injury in early 2009 John returned in the 2XI against Ryton away and became the fifth bowler to take 200 wickets in the 2XI and is the first player to take 200 for both the firsts and seconds. 2009 also saw John become the first player to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in the NTSL for the 1XI.

After the opening weeks of the 2010 season John moved to the 2XI and broke the record for wickets in a season (since over restrictions were introduced) with 39 and equalled two further 2XI records; the most 5 wicket innings in a season of 5 and most '5 fors' in a career with 19. In the game against Chopwell he also became only the second player (after Howard Wright) to score fifty and take 5 wickets in the same game on two different occasions for the 2XI. Injuries saw him return to the 1XI early in the 2011 season and took 5-11 against Backworth, the first wicket making him the second player to take 200 1XI wickets in the NTSL for Ponteland and was his 9th '5 for', another Ponteland record in this League. His 20th '5 for' came in the match against Cowgate in 2011 with the 5-11 off 13 overs his most economic spell to date for the side.

Returning to the 2XI in 2017 the first of 3 wickets against Percy Main in August saw John become the 2XI's all time leading wicket taker. Became only the second player for the club, after Ron Fairweather, to take 1,000 wickets across the 1 & 2XI's in 2021 with the first of his 4 wickets against Whickham in August.

In the opening game of the 2023 season against Blaydon took a hat-trick, his first for the club
