Ed made his debut in the Friendly side at Stocksfield in 2003 alongside twin brother Tom. Although a Junior at the Club Ed played league cricket for Belsay before moving in 2006 and made his debut for the 1XI against Tynedale in the opening game of the season. Took five wickets for the first time in a 1XI Cup match against Newcastle City finishing with figures of 5-8. A spell of 5-22 against Alnwick in 2007 won the Lawson Rosebowl. Scored his first fifty for the Club in 2009 with 89 against Whickham for the 2XI and scored his maiden 1XI fifty in 2010 against Consett.

Left the club after 4 games of the 2011 season to play league cricket at Premier League Newcastle before returning in 2013 and during 2014 became only the eighth player to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in the league for the 1XI (and the third in the NTSL).

Moved to play for Kirkley in the 2015 season before returning in 2018. Against Bates Cottages became only the sixth player to score 50 and take 5 wickets in the same match for the 1XI with two career bests of 68 and 5-20.

Moved to Australia at the end of the 2018 season, returning in 2023
