Mike is the longest serving player at the Club, debuting aged 14 against Blagdon in 1959 and has played more seasons (54) than anyone else in the history of the club, playing his last game in 2012. A regular in the 1XI from the early '60s with a best of 92 against Tynedale in the 1968 B2 Championship winning side, one of several near misses on a 1XI century. During the 1966 season took part in a century partnership with his father Tom against Lynemouth - the first recorded father and son 100 partnership for Ponteland.
Elected Vice Captain of the 1XI in 1971, with his best all round season in 1975 with 450 runs and 19 wickets. Scored fifty and took 5 wickets in a game twice in 1974 and 1975, the first time the same player had achieved this twice for the side.
Scored his first century in 1980 in the 2XI, captaining the side in 1985, '86 & '94, also vice captain in 1990-92 and 1999-2001. Scored the 1st 2XI fifty in the NTSL against Alnwick,and his last 2XI appearance was in the promotion clinching win at Lanchester at the end of the 2004 season. 2008 was Mike's 50th season, in the friendly against Ovingham shared in a match winning partnership of 62 with his son Chris.
Played one game only in the 2012 season before retiring. The club awarded him life membership at the 2013 AGM
